THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED TILL...EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS...

The pains of the body and the belly aching...
the hurting screams, the frightening dreams were just breath taking.
The unbearable crumbles, the crying mumbles and the weird craving..
the strange fear, the painful tears...while they said.."oh, she is just faking."
.
.
Those uncalled mood swings, the constant cringes which it brings...
alongwith mumma's womanly advices and a gift of sanitary napkins with extra soft wings.
The weird stinking, people's awkward blinking..oh, how uncomfortable did it feel..
each night we would pray to god, "I will be a good girl and you take this away from me"... which was quite a deal.
.
.
The feeling of being a grown up, and finally taking it as a blessing...
alongwith a lot of guidelines of an anxious but a "systematic" form of dressing.
The feeling of being capable to manage ourselves with a "sophisticated" care..
alongwith a mastery to hide it from all the whispering lips and the curious eyes that stare.
.
.
The intollerable frustration, the bewildered irritation and with a prescribed medication...
we console ourselves that its a god's creation.
We spread our arms for the purest thing we have.. and "bleed with pride" we say..
but still, while fighting with all such "myths" each month..we smile because oh, it just a normal day!

  2. People need to open up on this subject at least within the privacy of their homes to help remove the confusion in the young minds. Unfortunately this is not done in many families. For many adolescent girls attaining puberty proves to be a traumatic experience. They need firm support and proper guidance from their near and dear ones in this crucial time; which is many times lacking as for the elders themselves are either ignorant about the phenomenon or are insensitive.

Ananya, you have handled this delicate topic from psychological angle very nicely. Your expressions are clear and precise.

Let me tell you that this is the time when a few medical problems related to the fertility of a woman start surfacing. It's always better to be cautious and vocal about each and every aspect of it so that the doctors could probe into any unusual occurances and prescribe timely medical treatment.

Expressing yourself on this so called "taboo" topic is a right step in the right direction. It's good that you did it.

As for expanded vocabulary, your use of appropriate, perfect words - in their proper places is commendable. Stylewise too you are evolving. My best wishes!

  8. Dear Ananya, the first sentence which is coming to my mind is "Proud of you". At the stage when girls usually shy to speak up about in public, you have touched the emotional part of it.
Certainly, if we open up at this stage then many of the problems which girls face like PCOD, which become critical problem later on, can be addressed at the right time.
Keep it up and all the best.
